Resilient Voices

Celebrating the importance of art in our lives

Resilient Voices

Commissioned by VOX Femina Los Angeles, Resilient Voices is a three-movement work for SSAA choir, treble choir, cello, and piano. This work honors the historical importance of art in our lives, the despair we feel when we cannot express ourselves, and the triumph of creative expression overcoming all obstacles.

Excerpts from Resilient Voices

Unashamed, she proclaimed,
”This is who I am.
Art is my gift.
Art is my calling.
I belong here.”

— I. Belonging

The stage is bare.
My home is dark.
This lean season brings
Emptiness within.
Who am I without my work?

— II. Falling Silent

Face to face
We talk together in this sacred place.
We speak what must be spoken
And heal what has been broken.
Rejoice!

— III. Returning
